5 Ways to Transform Your Old Pool

Is your old pool looking tired and out-of-date? An old pool can make your outdoor living space look shabby, detracting from the beauty and value of your home. You don’t have to replace your pool to get a completely new look. Remodeling your old pool using one or more of these five transformation options can make your old pool look new again.

  1. Resurface. One of the most dramatic ways to update your old pool is resurfacing. Adding bright, beautiful pebbles or a sparkling metallic surface can make everything old new again. Plus, new surfaces are available that will last up to ten times longer than older options.
  2. Add a spa. While a spa will not change your pools appearance, it can update your pool area. When combined with new decking or resurfacing, adding a spa can create a brand new look for your backyard.
  3. Add features. If your old pool is bare, a natural waterfall, colored lights or fire features are a great way to add some pizazz to your pool.
  4. Modernize your pool. If you have an old, classic or traditional pool, consider adding some new modern features. Tanning ledges and beach entries are excellent options to modernize your pool area.
  5. Update your decking or coping. Sometimes all you need to make your pool look new again is to change its surroundings. Adding new pavers, tile or brick around your pool can give it a more stylish, updated look.

Get your pool ready for the summer by adding some updates. Call your local pool remodeling company today to get your pool transformation started.

However, deciding what type of resurfacing material to use can be confusing. There are many different options available, from glamorous to strictly functional. 1. Aesthetics. Installing a new surface to your pool can dramatically change your pools appearance. If you want an exotic or stunning pool area, consider options like Diamond Brite that add an element of elegance to your pool.

3 Renovations That Can Change Your Pool from Boring to Brilliant

Does your pool lack any sparkle or personality? While it may be a great place to cool off during the hot summer months, you also want it to look great and be a centerpiece to your outdoor area. It doesn’t necessarily take a full makeover over to add some bling to your pool area. Consider these three renovations that can quickly convert your boring pool to a brilliant centerpiece.

  1. Resurfacing. If your pool surface is faded, stained or just plain, a resurfacing can make a huge difference in the appearance of your pool. Consider options like a Pebble Tec, Wet Edge or Diamond Brite that can bring out the brilliance of your pool. These come in an amazing variety of colors and finishes that will make your pool look brand new.
  2. Water Features. Nothing adds a splash to your pool like a water feature. A drizzling waterfall can add movement and sound to your pool area that makes it more than just a standing basin of water. Wok pots are another option, gracefully spilling water from strategically placed pots on your pool deck into your pool.
  3. Lighting features. One of the best times to enjoy the beauty of a pool is at night, when lights flicker off the surface. Bring out even more brilliance with the addition of light features. Fiber optic lighting can add color and pizazz to your nighttime pool appearance for a spectacular showpiece.

Adding one of all these renovations to your pool can transform it from basic to phenomenal. Call your local pool renovation specialist to discuss ways to give your pool a mini-makeover.

Can Your Pool Affect the Value of Your Home?

If you are considering selling your home in the next few years, you know how competitive the housing market is at this time. Buyers have the upper hand in most areas of the country, having a choice of many homes available for sale. To make a good impression on buyers, it’s important to have a home which is aesthetically appealing as well as structurally sound. If you have a pool that’s seen better days, it may be bringing down the value of your home.

Three Reasons to Renovate Your Pool

If you have an older pool, it’s probably showing signs of wear. Most pools need to be resurfaced once every 10 years or so, and liners eventually need to be replaced. If you’re trying to sell your home, your pool should be a selling point, not a drawback to buyers. Consider these reasons to renovate your pool before you try to sell your home:

  • Extra costs. Buyers will be looking for anything with the potential to cost them money down the road. An old pool is not a benefit; it’s a financial responsibility.
  • Aesthetics. Aesthetics play a big role in winning a buyer over when selling a home. A stunning pool may be the tie-breaker when they are choosing between your home and another on the market.
  • Lifestyle. A beautiful pool speaks to a certain lifestyle, which attracts home buyers. Having that oasis in the backyard is a status symbol many buyers are looking for.

Before putting your home on the market, consider having your old pool renovated. It could make a big difference on the value of your home and how quickly it sells.

Pebble Tec Pool Resurfacing

In most cases, swimming pools and spas should be resurfaced every 5-10 years as part of the pool’s maintenance plan, which will increase the lifespan of the pool as well keep the pool looking new.  While there are a number of excellent products available on the market, Pebble Tec is an industry leader and provides outstanding results, while being cost effective at the same time.

The heart of the Pebble Tec pool finish is the use of natural pebbles, which are incorporated into the finish.  The pebbles are obtained from mines throughout the United States as well as overseas and are of the highest quality.  Quality standards are very specific in determining the texture, color and size acceptable, as Pebble Tec does not consider every pebble to be the equal!

Pebble Tec is available in 18 colors including Jet Black, Back Pearl, Jade, Tahoe Blue, Blue Lagoon, Blue Sky, Moonlight Grey, Caribbean Blue and Sedona Red.  In addition, Pebble Tec is available in four different textures as well.  In addition to being stain resistant, beautiful and natural, Pebble Tec provides a non-slip surface to the pool, which enhances safety.  One of the features of the product that makes it so popular is how the finish interacts with the water to reflect sunlight throughout the day, resulting in a wide spectrum of colors.

Choosing the Best Option for Pool Resurfacing

If you want to update your pool’s surface, you have several options.  You can stick with traditional pool plaster that remains popular even today.  For a different look, you can use tinted pool plaster that will reflect colors and add interest.  White plaster is the most affordable option and it allows the clear blue of the water to stand out.  However, it will also change colors over time from the alterations in the pool chemicals.

Colored plaster accentuates anything seen in white plaster.  Therefore stains will be more noticeable and variations in shading will be more pronounced.  The color may also fade out.

A modern option is to use aggregate effects.  This uses ceramic-coated sand with a variety of patterns and colors to make your pool unique from anyone else’s.  The sand provides a slip-proof surface and requires very little maintenance.  When it is combined with plaster, the surface is more durable and resistant to staining than plaster.  This option is more expensive than plain plaster.

The pebble surface pool is beautiful with a natural look in a wide variety of colors.  It is also the most durable surface choice for a pool and does not react with pool chemicals.  This allows it to retain its natural color.  The down side of the pebble surface pool is that it is more expensive than the other choices.  However, it will last longer and stay in better condition than the other options.

Once you determine what surface you would like to have when you update your pool, you should contact a pool renovation specialist to help you get started.
