Are You Looking for an Alternative to Chlorine for Your Pool?

For many decades, adding chorine has been the best solution for keeping commercial and residential pools sanitary and safe for swimming. However, there are also negative aspects to using this strong chemical in your pool. Chlorine can be harsh on your hair, skin and clothing, plus it emits a powerful odor. With new technology, other options besides adding large amounts of chlorine to your pool for sanitation have come available. One option is the ozone generator.

What Is Ozone?

An ozone generator can make a substantial difference in the quality of your pool experience. Many large commercial enterprises like water parks and motels use ozone generators to keep their water sanitary. These generators are also called salt systems, as they use salt to create chlorine naturally in the water for sanitization. The system work by using an electrolytic cell that converts salt that is added to your pool into hypochlorous acid, the active element in chlorine. Since the cell is installed inside the plumbing of your pool, all the water in the pool passes through it as it cycles, making sure all your pool water stays sanitized.

Once these systems are installed, very little chlorine should be needed to be added to your pool, reducing your chlorine use by up to 90% to keep your pool balanced. The result is an odor-free pool that is more enjoyable to swim in, without the harsh effects of large amounts of added chlorine.

If you are interested in upgrading your pool to an ozone generator, talk to your local pool service that installs and maintains salt systems for their customers. You will love the experience of swimming in a low chlorine pool this summer!

Enjoy A Clean, Safe Pool With A Salt Chlorine Generator

If you own a pool and use chlorine and other chemicals to manage your pH balance, you know how harsh these chemicals can be. Just the smell alone can be noxious, along with eye irritation and damage to your skin and hair. There is a better way to keep your pool safely within the right pH range, with fewer chemicals and less required maintenance to accomplish those goals. A salt chlorine generator can make a significant difference in the quality of your pool water, while requiring less maintenance and chemicals to maintain your pool.

What Is A Salt Chlorine Generator?

The way a salt chlorine generator works is by creating its own chlorine from sodium chloride in the water. To allow this to happen, the water in the pool must first be brought up to a salt-water ratio of at least 3,000 ppm, or 3,000 parts per million, of salt. What the generator does is use this salt concentration to create hydrogen gas and hypochlorous acid by using electrolysis to break the salt particles into these two elements as the water passes through the salt cell. The gas evaporates up through the water, while the hypochlorous acid sanitizes the water. Once the water passes back into the pool, the salt reforms and the process begins over again.

The benefit of this method is that there are fewer chlorine concentrates in the water, creating a more pleasurable swimming experience. For those who are sensitive to chlorine or and are looking for chlorine alternatives, this is a perfect solution. Although pool chemistry must still be monitored, using a salt chlorine generator eliminates the need for many chemicals which are traditionally needed on a weekly basis. To learn more, call your local pool service company to discuss having a new salt generator installed in your pool.
